Programs

Curriculum

Our proud curriculum is both structured and diverse, providing a range of experiences for those in our care. All children in our Center, aged two through five, will have a preschool curriculum planned by each lead teacher taking into account the needs and interests of the children in the class. Infant and toddler care is also designed with specific and age-appropriate education in mind.

The broad curriculum for the preschooler, regardless of age level, is based on the following to be built upon in a sequential manner:

Social Development

  • Association with others

Emotional Development

  • Expressing emotions in an acceptable manner
  • Accepting one's feelings

Self Concept Development

  • Working with the child to help child develop a positive self-image
  • Working with the child to develop self help skills

Mental Development

  • Forming concepts: colors, numbers, shapes, weight, letters
  • Perception: awareness, likeness, difference

Physical Motor Development

  • Fine muscle coordination: puzzles, games, manipulative
  • Gross muscle coordination: climbing, jumping, riding

Language Development

  • Amount of speech, articulation, verbalization of desires and frustrations, grammar

Our high quality program stresses health and safety, exploration and learning, cooperation and sharing in classroom settings that allow the children freedom of choice within a teacher facilitated environment.

Outside play is also an important part of a child's development and there is ample opportunity for exploration in our age-appropriate playgrounds, courtyard and indoor gymnasium.

For our infants and toddlers, the daily schedule will be based on activities that allow the children to feel secure. They will be encouraged to develop at their own pace through interaction with the caregivers and other children. Both active and quiet times will be alternated throughout the day and the staff will emphasize social interaction, gross motor skills, self feeding skills, language skills and self help skills.

Enrichment

In addition to our excellent curriculum, we are proud to offer specific enrichment programs that enhance children's knowledge and experience in the areas of health, wellness, music, movement and foreign language. The CDC currently offers the below programs at no additional cost.

Stretch-n-Grow physical education
Stretch-n-Grow is a fabulously fun fitness program offered to all children of Faith ages two to five. The program teaches children the fundamentals of a healthy lifestyle with emphasis on exercise and good food choices. More than one million kids around the world have benefited from this exercise program that follows the Youth Fitness Guidelines established by the American Fitness and Aerobics Association and American Council on Exercise; the two leading authorities in group fitness. Our certified Stretch-n-Grow coach makes exercising, "EXERciting!!"

Lunch is in the Bag nutrition education
The Center and its students have also participated in a nutrition education program called "Lunch is in the Bag" through the University of Texas. The program gives teachers tools to continue educating students and parents on the importance of a balanced diet with the goal of improving the contents of snacks and sack lunches.

Music and movement
Opportunities for using music and movement as a teaching tool are woven throughout the curriculum. Music education has been shown to improve concentration, memory, self-expression, and enhance coordination and fine motor functioning, so our teachers expose students to dancing, singing, playing musical instruments, and sign language. Then you get to see your child show off what they've learned at our musical programs!

Foreign language
Enseñamos español, también! Time is set aside in each class for both Spanish and sign language instruction. Using flash cards, age appropriate books, song and signing, children of the CDC are exposed to the fundamentals of these languages.

Parent education
We make an investment in our parents, too! Several times a year workshops will be hosted for continuing education of parents with topics ranging from Smart Discipline© techniques to family financial planning.

Afterschool and Summer Youth Programs

In addition to our infant and preschool programs, the Center also offers after school care with pick-up from Brentwood and Gullett elementary schools and a summer youth program (SYP) for elementary age children during the summer months.

Through our after school program, your child will be given homework assistance, opportunities for arts and crafts, participate in group activities, enjoy snack time and have fun with free play in a safe and secure environment. The children will also enjoy field trips to Brentwood Park, movie days, and be exposed to chapel services.

The SYP is an exciting (and affordable!) way for kindergarteners through 6th grade students to spend their summer. Every year there is a thrilling theme, planned activities based on age and interest, interesting field trips, opportunities for arts and crafts, swimming, fun games and chapel services for students in a faith-based environment. The goal for our summer teachers is to help promote social skills, sportsmanship, and education and all staff is CPR, first aid, and water safety trained.
